UNAC, antiwar coalition, need help to help…

UNAC had a busy year in 2021 despite the pandemic, and we have great plans for the coming year. But to continue our work we need your support. We are totally funded by our members and supporters, so we are never beholden to anyone except the cause of peace and justice.

Actions in 2021:

Members and leaders of UNAC were part of delegations that travelled to Nicaragua and Venezuela to observe the elections and show solidarity in the face of US attacks and sanctions on those countries. UNAC members also went to Cabo Verde to support Alex Saab.

UNAC was also part of the Sanctions Kill Coalition and the Coalition to free Julian Assange. We supported demonstrations for Assange and Alex Saab – a Venezuelan diplomate kidnapped by the US government – as well as a national tour by the father and brother of Julian Assange.

We held webinars on the Rebellion in Colombia, the Horn of Africa, Building the antiwar movement under the Biden administration, Climate Change, and the Militarization of Space as well as Julian Assange. We supported a webinar by UNAC affiliate BAYAN, a coalition of Filipino groups on attacks on activists in the Philippines and more.

We issued statements on the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, the new military alliance between the US, UK and Australia called AUKUS, the US defeat in Afghanistan, US aggression towards Cuba, China and the Ukraine/Russia confrontation, the rebellions in Colombia and Haiti, as well as the attack on the Capital, the Israel Bombings and attacks on Palestine and more.

UNAC responded to an attack from a right-wing “socialist” that was signed by several hundred others on our position on Syria, with our own sign-on statement that got more than 1300 signatures of individuals and dozens of groups in a matter of days.

We answered another attack on UNAC and the US Peace Council that was printed in the Nation that criticized our anti-imperialist positions.

Four members of our administrative committee and others from the Sanctions Kill Coalition met with leaders of the Venezuelan government when they came to New York for the UN General Assembly meeting and we presented them with a report that the Sanctions Kill Coalition authored on the effects of US sanctions around the world.

We continued publishing the UNAC Blog, which presents articles of those from UNAC member groups and friends.

Youth Against empire:

The UNAC youth group, Youth Against Empire sponsored webinars, call-in campaigns and twitter storms on Palestine, Iran and other issues in 2021.

Glen Ford and Kevin Zeese. We noted the passing of Glen Ford, who was the co-founder and executive editor of Black Agenda Report and a great friend of UNAC, and sent out the keynote address he gave at the last UNAC national conference in 2020.

We also noted the passing of UNAC administrative committee member and co-director of Popular Resistance, Kevin Zeese, who died at the end of 2020.

But none of this could be done without your help.
